Rehabilitation of a complex of 7 buildings and 152 social housing units, built in the 1950s. Thirty-six collective housing units are also being built. The complex is located close to the historic centre of the town of Le Bouscat, one of the 27 municipalities in the Bordeaux metropolitan area.
The concept was to create a coherent ensemble between the rehabilitated buildings and the new construction. The existing building was treated with respect so that the 1950s-era base could be identified. The new building takes on a contemporary expression.
Each existing flat was given an extension (a stretch of garden), whose function is then defined by the user. The architectural expression of the façades of the refurbishment and the new construction uses the same element: an extruded profile that serves as a railing and a horizontal sunshade.
