Within the perimeter of the old town of Bordeaux, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, this intervention consists of identifying the original elements of a building whose buried vaults were built in the 16th century and which served as a food reserve for the adjoining religious cloister.

In the 18th and 19th centuries it was a two-storey building created for craft and industrial activities. In keeping with the city’s traditions, the building does not exhibit the particularity of its uses and was founded in the medieval streetscape. Thus, the cellar level with its monumental staircase is occupied by an art gallery, the ground floor by a shared porch and the architectural workshop, and the upper floor by a single-family dwelling.

“The project preserves and reinterprets the unique elements of the site. The peculiarities of the old building have been maintained or strengthened in many respects”
