This multifamily housing complex designed by the Barber Rentería Arquitectes studio is located on a street near the Ramblas in Barcelona. The main feature of the project was the steel façade, which reinterprets the composition of the existing buildings and gives new value to the neighbourhood.

“It was very difficult to see if what we were designing would actually work. It was surprising to see the proportionate that a piece of the façade had when the prototype was made. That’s the beauty of making a model in situ, apart from seeing the contrasts in brightness and material.”

Elegance is materialised in this project by concealing all the anchoring mechanisms of the façade. To achieve this took a lot of engineering, as well as the most talented hands during assembly. Steel sheets folded in a multitude of folds reflect the contrasts of light and brightness of the material, achieving a variety of colour and texture that magnifies the viewer’s experience.
